montepulciano

Our first class field trip involved exploring the region of Toscana. We left early Monday morning and took a bus ride to a small town called Montepulciano. This quaint city ended up being one of my favorite stops on the trip.

After our lecture on the Etruscan influence in Tuscany, a few friends and I began to walk the city. It took a mere 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other. We popped into a few small shops, including an antique print shop, before grabbing lunch. Tuscany is known for truffles, so I tried a panini con prosciutto e tartufi. At home I am not too keen on either of these ingredients, but they truly do taste more fresh and flavorful here in Italy.

After lunch, we walked down to the church of San Biago.

My iPhone camera cannot capture the beauty of this small centralized church set into the Montepulciano hillside.
